Being By Yourself

August 13, 2012

Being alone is wonderful,

And frightening,

To soak up the silence,

And sit with nothing,

But your thoughts,

And a pen for your words,

Laugh inside your mind,

At the fantastical worlds,

And the side of you,

That no one ever sees,

Enjoy moments of insanity,

Then revel in the seriousness,

Of your deepest, unshared thoughts,

Smile at your secrets,

And the memory of your lover,

Cry for the ones,

You’ll never see again,

But do not linger on this long,

For everything is fleeting,

The world is ephemeral,

And you are ever changing,

People will move away,

But your dreams will always stay.

You are alone and it’s okay.

I love sitting alone in the woods or by a waterfall at the creek or river. It makes me feel alive. My dog loves it too. πŸ™‚ beautiful poem.

    • Thanks, Liz. Isn’t it the best thing to do? I love that you take your dog to sit with you. I used to sit alone in the forest with my blue cattle dog and she was the best company when I wanted to enjoy the silence!

  3. Really enjoyed reading this. I am often in just the position you described – “soak up the silence, and sit with nothing”.

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ If you can appreciate the value of ‘alone time’ it can be very relaxing and a great time for reflecting.

      Take care!

yes, absolutaly and that’s one of the reasons i love writing, cause it only my way to escape from loneliness and when no friend stays near.

    • If you have creative talent you always have something to do when you’re lonely and alone. It’s brilliant!

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. πŸ™‚
