Back To Back

October 29, 2012

Back to back,

They lay together,

On a bed of jagged words

That cut-

Only to be fashioned,

Refined and reused

A thousand times,

Their sting perfected.

Back to back,

Never touching,

A concrete wall of

Everything left unsaid

Between them.

His blunt words

And her ugly tongue

Are the only twain

That ever shall meet.

  1. Ah well….I thought I’d come back to your blog for some flawed beauty you sculpture so well…..heehee…that ain’t happening! As usual your sense of people is so perceptive. No-one has a sharper tongue than a woman, and a man is yes, blunt, and insensitive…ah well..though no real man should be able to turn his back on a woman’s back..i happens..

  2. Awesome words !!

    • And who, may I ask, is Auden?

      • Oh have you not read W. H. Auden?

One of favourite poets, who wrote such wonderful things like Stop All The Clocks…. and The More Loving One

        • Oh I just googled him… How beautiful his poems are, I should have known who he was!

          • A moving version of Stop The Clocks, was featured in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral.
            Who are you favourites influences?

  6. Your poem was very so very real, and written well! A lot of people will be able to relate to the life they feel in your words…they willl understand and maybe somethings might change in their lives. You are a true blessing Sylvie…have a wonderful day, and a beautiful week ahead!

    • Thank you, Wendell, that is a lovely thing to say. I don’t know if I could have the power to change people’s lives with my words, but at the least I hope they can relate and take a new perspective away with them after reading.
      Thanks for visiting πŸ™‚

  7. This is a beautiful poem, and sadly so very true! I like your writing style a lot!
